Easter 2012

Posted by Jamie

What a fun Easter weekend. On Good Friday we went to the Zoo and had fun spinning for eggs and jumping in bouncy castles. On Saturday we went to Butterfield acres Farm to pet baby animals and go on an easter egg hunt. Charlie loved all the babies. On Sunday we found eggs all over the apartment and went to church. The boys had a wonderful weekend.20120525-221040.jpg

The M Blanket

Posted by Jamie

Sewing! Do I like it or is it too frustrating to like. Marvin picked out some fabric, I designed a blanket and got started on my project right away. I have very limited sewing experience so I would be better off using a pattern. I cut out an M free hand, hated it then added fabric to it to make it look nicer. The material bunched up while I was sewing the M on. I had to do some seam ripping and then more seam ripping when I was working on the edge the the blanket. My last sewing machine needle broke when I was almost finished the blanket. The blanket has been folded up and put in my uncompleted project pile. Things that end up on that pile stay forever. Hopefully this blanket will have another fate such as getting completed and ending up on Marvin's bed before he's all grown up.

Seedlings

Posted by Jamie

Last year our community started a community garden and we were lucky enough to get a plot. I couldn't plant anything till June so I spent a lot of money buying plants from garden centers. This year I thought I would start my own cucumbers and tomatoes so I could save some money. You can see they aren't doing to well. I'm disappointed but I'll plant them anyway and hope I learn somethings so next years seedling will be better. My parents and a friend from church are giving me suggestions. I've transplanted them, watered less and have just added fertilizer. I planted some seeds into the garden at the end of April. The peas, radishes, carrots, and lettus are up. They don't look wonderful but they are alive. Even if my garden is a total flop I enjoy doing it and hope I will get better over the years. My main goal is to play in the dirt with my boys and to teach them how vegetables are grown. I come form a long line of farmers and farm wives with amazing gardens. I love dirt and vegetables. I feel like its in my veins or something.

Becoming Friends

Posted by Jamie

We've had a brotherhood break through in our home. Charlie is starting to trust Marvin. Up until now he would never let Marvin hold his hand and he certainly would never let Marvin fix one of his toys. Charlie and Marvin have always loved each other. Hugs and kisses are sometimes exchanged between them and they love to wrestle each other but they are toy rivals. Up until now Charlie has not permitted hand holding or a willingness to share. Today they were holding hands while watching TV and recently Charlie let Marvin hold his hand as they walked through the parking lot. Yesterday Charlie even gave Marvin a toy to fix for him. I think my boys are becoming friends. I love them so much. Lately Marvin has been very kind and loving towards Charlie and I think that is what started this wonderful change in their relationship. Over a month ago Charlie was sitting on his black computer chair watching "Go Diego Go" when Marvin came up to the chair and rested his chin on the seat. Charlie immediately started to scream and kick. I started to tell Marvin to move when he put his hands on Charlie's shins and looked him straight in the eye while he saying " but I love you". Charlie stopped screaming leaned over and said "ug" while giving Marvin a long tight hug. Overcome by cuteness I walked over to them and kissed each of them on the head. Charlie then started to make kissing sounds. Marvin very slowly tilted his head back and ever so softly kissed Charlie on the lips. It was the sweetest thing I had ever seen.
